INDIANAPOLIS – On Saturday afternoon, Notre Dame College fell to No. 7 ranked Regis University, 17-2. The contest took place at a neutral site, hosted by the University of Indianapolis.
Four of the Falcons' first five opponents this season have been ranked in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's Division II top 25.
NDC started Saturday's game strong as sophomore
Joselyn Storm won the opening draw control. NDC dominated the draw, winning all five in the first quarter. On Regis' first possession, freshman goalkeeper
Annika Duncan saved a shot to keep the Rangers off the scoreboard.
Regis led 4-0 by the end of the first quarter, but the Falcons started working back into the game to begin the second. Following a Regis turnover, senior
Megan Dano ran behind the goal and tossed a pass to sophomore
Grace Nickoloff for NDC's first goal of the game.
Four minutes later, senior
Jamira Mashore sent a pass from a few feet behind the goal to find Nickoloff. Nickoloff fooled the goalkeeper by faking the shot on one side, pulling it back, and then putting the ball into the back of the net on the other side to make the score 5-2.
At halftime, Notre Dame trailed Regis, 8-2.
Sophomore
Mackaleigh Levine entered the game as the Falcons' goalkeeper in the third quarter and immediately recorded two saves in the first four minutes. She led the team with five saves.
Sophomore
Piper Hammond won two draw controls in both the first and second half and ended the game leading the team with her four total draw controls.
Notre Dame will play at home for the first time this season, on March 23 against Quincy University. First draw is scheduled for 3 p.m.
