SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The final home game of the season for the Notre Dame College women's basketball featured a sizable, roaring crowd against West Liberty University on Wednesday evening. Despite being led by sophomore
Lilee Carlson's team-high 16 points, the Falcons conceded the contest to the Hilltoppers 78-61.
A slow start to the game, gave way to a 14-9 WLU lead after one. Senior
Amil Ali-Shakir drained a three-pointer with 1:57 left in the period, the final points by either team in the frame.
In the second quarter, West Liberty extended their advantage to 29-19 at the half.
Carlson started to cook in the third quarter, registering six points and two assists in the frame. Moreover, the Stow-Munroe Falls High School product scored or assisted on five of the seven made field goals by NDC in the period. However, after the third, West Liberty led 48-35.
In the fourth quarter, Notre Dame found their stroke, shooting 8-17 from the field (47.1%), including nine made free throws. On the other hand, WLU also had their offense in a groove, winning the period 30-26, including 78-61 in the end.
As aforementioned, Carlson led Notre Dame on the evening with a team-high 16 points and two assists.
Junior
Lizzie Imrie chipped in 13 points, while senior
Marina Adachi added 10.
On the glass, freshmen
Noel Weathers and
Peyton Wells secured a team-high six rebounds apiece.
As a team, Notre Dame shot 23-70 (32.9%) from the floor, 3-9 (33.3%) from three and 12-16 (75.0%) from the free throw line.
The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. to round out the regular season at Alderson Broaddus University.
