INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The Notre Dame College women's basketball (6-20, 5-15 MEC) team ran into West Virginia State University (21-4, 16-4 MEC) on the road Saturday afternoon, 115-67.
In the first quarter, WV State led 5-3, before Notre Dame grabbed a 10-7 lead after a 7-2 run at the 6:23 mark via senior
Marina Adachi. The Yellow Jackets closed out the period on a 17-7 run, to hold a 24-17 advantage after one.
The Falcons battled to begin the second frame. A pair of
Karli Anker free throws, moved the score to 32-28 WVSU, with 5:31 to play in the half. However, the Yellow Jackets closed the period out on a 22-8 run, moving in front 54-36.
WV State controlled the second half of the contest, 32-20 in the third and 29-11 in the fourth.
For the game, Notre Dame was led by Adachi's team-high 17 points, fueled by 3-4 shooting from three. The senior added a game-high four steals on the day.
She was joined by junior
Lizzie Imrie's 16 points and six rebounds, while freshman
Noel Weathers added seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Senior
Amil Ali-Shakir dished out a team-high four assists.
As a team, Notre Dame shot 26-74 (35.1%) from the floor, 3-14 (21.4%) from three and 12-14 (85.7%) from the free throw line.
The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will play their final home game of the season on Wednesday Feb. 22 at 5:30 against West Liberty University.
