INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Notre Dame College baseball team (0-2) got their 2023 season underway on Saturday afternoon at the University of Indianapolis (2-0). However, the Falcons fell on both occasions, 17-1 and 32-7.
In the first game, UIndy jumped on top 10-0 after the first three innings.
Devon Minney manufactured the lone run for NDC in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice.
The Greyhounds closed out the first contest 17-1 after seven innings.
Hayden Parker and
Tyler Shadle each picked up a pair of hits in the contest to lead NDC.
In game two, the duo got the action started early as Shadle produced a sacrifice fly, plating Parker and giving NDC a 1-0 lead in the first.
The Greyhounds responded with seven runs in the bottom half of the frame, before leading 10-1 after the second.
In the top of the fourth inning,
Bill Reaume ejected a home run to left center field (10-2), the First for the Falcons on the year.
Shadle continued his strong day with a solo home run of his own in the top of the sixth inning (14-3).
The NDC offense continued to battle as they posted four runs on two hits in the top of the seventh inning. After a Greyhound fielding error,
Johnny Costella tallied an RBI, then
Zachary Kakos brought in two more with a single to right field (18-7).
Parker and Shadle led the team with three hits each on the day. Parker added a double, as Shadle and Reaume provided the other extra-base hits for NDC. Lastly, Shadle and Kakos drove in a pair of runs for the Falcons.
The Notre Dame College baseball team will be back in action tomorrow for the series finale against UIndy at noon.
