Fifth shutout of the season powers NDC to 3-0 victory at FSU; Szijarto and Pasalaqua continue to rewrite program history

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Junior Miriam Szijarto generated the fifth multi-goal game of her career as Notre Dame College (9-4-3, 8-4-1 MEC) defeated Fairmont State (6-8-2, 5-7-1 MEC) 3-0 on Wednesday evening. The Ravenna, Ohio native now owns 15 goals on the season, tied for the third-most in NDC program history.
 
The Falcons got the scoring started early as Ashley Rainho gifted Notre Dame a 1-0 lead in 10th minute. Louisa Follert delivered her team-leading fifth assist on the year as Rainho drove home her third goal of the season.
 
Szijarto was not far behind, as the junior stole the ball from the FSU defense, before dribbling around the right of the keeper to double the Falcon advantage in the 21st minute (2-0).
 
Notre Dame continued to pour on the scoring in the 76th minute when Szijarto posted her second goal of the match, including fifth multi-goal game of the season to move Notre Dame in front 3-0. The Archbishop Hoban High School product totals her team-leading and MEC-leading 15th goal of the season, tied for the third-most in NDC program history, with Leslea Chopka of 2002. Moreover, Szijarto ranks tied for fourth in NDC single season history with 33 points and continues to be a top 10 scorer nationally.
 
Senior Jordan Pasalaqua secured a game-high six saves, including four in the second half, as the Madison, Ohio native is two saves away from tying Kristy Kolschetzky (339) for the most in Notre Dame program history. In addition, Pasalaqua registers the 27th clean sheet during her illustrious career, second in program history, as the Madison High School product is two shutouts away from tying Kolschetzky.
 
Notre Dame outshot Fairmont State 11 (7) to 9 (7), as Szijarto fired a game-high and career-high seven shots including five on goal.
 
The Notre Dame College women's soccer team will be back in action on Sunday Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. as the Falcons travel to Wheeling University.
