Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s soccer finishes off seventh shutout in a draw with Concord

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon, Notre Dame College and Concord University played to a scoreless draw. The two goalkeepers, Keegan Grant, of Concord, and Danilo Abayo Wilson, of NDC, combined for 17 saves to keep the ball away from the net.

The Falcons had opportunities throughout the contest and two shots that nearly hit the back of the net in the first 20 seconds. Sophomore Guilherme Wanderley sent a ball in that was punched away by Grant and then junior Mirai Sato had the ball on the other side of the box and swung his leg, but Grant found a way to scramble over and make a diving save, the second in the span of seven seconds.

Grant had 12 saves in total, six in each half.

Junior Ailton Fagner Silva, who led the Falcons with eight shots taken, took two shots on target over a five minute span, from the 5:52-mark to the 10:45-mark.

In the 39th minute, Concord took its first shot on target of the game, a header that slowly bounced into Wilson's hands.

As the teams moved to the second half, Notre Dame continued to attack aggressively. Beginning in the 60th minute, NDC took four shots on goal over a 7-minute span.

Late in the game, Concord began to take over the possession and had some open looks at goal. In the 78th minute, Tomas Kelly was one-on-one with Wilson and the Falcons' goalkeeper fell to the ground to keep the shot away.

Wilson had to make another stop with about five minutes to go in the contest. A great pass across the field set Kelly up in the box and another shot low and down the middle was played perfectly by the Falcons' keeper.

NDC's 25 shots taken is tied for the most this season. For just the third time in 2023, Notre Dame's offense was shutout. However, the Falcons have already tallied seven shutouts on the defensive side.

Wilson's five saves is his second highest amount this year.

The Falcons will hit the road for a Oct. 4 matchup with No. 12 University of Charleston. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
