GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Facing a nationally-ranked opponent for the fourth time this season, the Notre Dame College women's basketball team (5-15, 4-10 MEC) squared up against No. 5 Glenville State University (18-2, 12-2 MEC) on Saturday afternoon. Despite efficient offensive performances from
Noel Weathers,
Lizzie Imrie and
Cencere McDaniel, the Falcons fell 98-59 to the Pioneers.
Notre Dame put together a solid first quarter, shooting 8-13 (61.5%) from the floor to total 18 points, while outrebounding the Pioneers eight to four. However, Glenville State also shot the ball well in the first period, posting 32 points and holding a 14-point advantage after one.
GSU extended their lead to 55-30 at the break.
NDC ramped up their defensive intensity in the third quarter, holding GSU to 7-15 (46.7%) from the floor, including six turnovers, more than any other frame. The Pioneers led 75-44 after three quarters of play.
Following a 23-15 fourth quarter, NDC fell 98-59 on the road to GSU.
The Falcons were led offensively by Weathers' team-high 16 points on 7-11 from the field. She was joined by Imrie's 14 points on 6-8 shooting, along with McDaniel's 12 points on 5-6 from the floor, tying a career-high.
The frontcourt duo of Weathers and Imrie paced NDC on the glass, securing a game-high nine and eight rebounds, respectively. Notre Dame outrebounded Glenville State on the afternoon 34-28, including 12-8 on the offensive boards, leading to a 14-9 advantage in second chance points for NDC.
As a team, NDC shot 25-54 (46.3%) from the floor, 0-5 from three-point land and 9-15 (60.0%) from the free throw line.
The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday February 1 at 5:30 p.m. for a battle at West Virginia Wesleyan College.
