BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – A late comeback falls short for the Notre Dame College women's basketball team (5-16, 4-11 MEC) at West Virginia Wesleyan College (4-14, 3-12 MEC) on Wednesday evening. The Falcons cut the Bobcat advantage to a one-possession game with under a minute remaining, before falling 75-68.
A slow start to the contest gave way to a 18-11 WVWC lead after one.
The two sides went back and forth in the second frame 13-13, as the Bobcats led 31-24 at the break.
Again, the two sides dueled in the third quarter, as WV Wesleyan maintained a 48-40 advantage.
The Falcons got the offense going in the fourth quarter, shooting 10-17 (58.8%) from the floor and totaling 28 points. Despite, trailing by 10 points (61-51) with 3:40 left to play, NDC battled until the final whistle, cutting the WVWC lead to three (69-66) with under a minute to play. However, Notre Dame fell 75-68 on the road.
Leading the way for Notre Dame was senior
Marina Adachi with a team-high 13 points. She was joined by junior
Lizzie Imrie who score 10 points on a perfect 5-5 from the floor.
The duo also led NDC on the glass as Imrie secured a team-high six rebounds, followed by Adachi who tied a season-high with five boards.
As a team, Notre Dame shot 27-57 (47.4%) from the floor, 5-15 (33.3%) from three and 9-16 (56.3%) from the free throw line.
The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday February 4 at 2 p.m. against Davis & Elkins College.
