Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s soccer hangs on to defeat Alderson Broaddus for fourth straight win

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – After a scoreless first half on Wednesday evening, Notre Dame College was the first team to score, in the 51st minute. The Falcons would get a much-needed insurance goal from Jack Milford about 20 minutes later to end Alderson Broaddus University's comeback attempt and win, 2-1.

Notre Dame set the tone in the first 20 seconds as freshman Simao Coelho took the first shot of the game. In the 8th minute, sophomore Taylor Dyson had the first shot on goal of the game. The Falcons would have plenty of opportunities in the first 45 minutes, striking 13 shots and taking five corners.

Dyson sent a shot on target to the upper 90, in the 40th minute, but Alderson Broaddus' goalkeeper Diego Gomez jumped to his right and punched the ball away. Gomez would finish the game with eight saves.

The teams went into their locker rooms scoreless, but the Falcons jumped on the scoreboard just over six minutes into the second stanza. NDC went on the attack, as junior Leonardo Palmieri pushed the ball up to freshman Jose Rivas. Rivas sped ahead of the defense and sent the ball into the net.

A flurry of goals took place around the 70th minute. As Alderson Broaddus' defense began to settle in and pressure the Falcons near the sideline, senior Jack Milford ran up the middle of the field, undetected by the defense. The ball was sent to the middle and Milford scored his first career goal with a shot from about 25 yards away.

That final NDC goal would turn out to be the game-winner, because Dereck Reyes scored for Alderson Broaddus, one minute later.

The Battlers tried to gain the momentum quickly, bringing the ball down the field and taking another shot on goal, but Notre Dame goalkeeper Pedro Alves made an important save. Four of AB's nine shots in the game, were taken in the final 20 minutes.

Dyson took six shots and four shots on goal, while Coelho totaled four shots, with two on target.

NDC comes back home to play West Liberty University, on Sept. 25. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
