Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s soccer scores four times, secures third consecutive victory

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College's win streak has reached three, and the Falcons have earned points in their last four contests. On Sunday afternoon, NDC had eight shots on goal and scored four times in a 4-2 win over Frostburg State University.

The Falcons dominated the possession early in the game, taking three shots in the first 22 minutes, while Frostburg's first corner did not occur until the 21st minute.

Until the 39th minute, the only shot on target was off the leg of freshman Jose Rivas, nearly 20 minutes earlier. A yellow card was issued and Notre Dame had a free kick, after the foul. Junior Leonardo Palmieri sent the ball into the box as the teams converged on the goal. Senior Jordan Lewis jumped and used his height to guide the ball into the net to give the Falcons the lead.

At halftime, Notre Dame led 1-0 and the defense did not allow FSU to take a shot in the first 45 minutes.

The attack continued for the NDC offense in the second half. In the 52nd minute, sophomore Carlos Almeida received a pass in the box, and had to work hard to get around a defender. He dumped the ball off to his left, finding senior Jack Milford and Milford made one of the most impressive passes of the season. With a defender to his right and teammate Palmieri to his left, he ran past Palmieri but then sent the ball backward, off his heel. Palmieri had the opportunity and cashed it in to put the Falcons ahead 2-0.

Less than a minute later, Almeida had the ball and used his speed to knife through the defense. Freshman Simao Coelho finished off the play by working through a defender to set up for a score.

Coelho had a career day as he would score his second goal of the day in the 64th minute. Sophomore Taylor Dyson had the assist.

Almeida also had a career day for the Falcons, as he was credited with two assists in the game.

Frostburg State did not go away quietly, as Abdur-Rahman Neama broke through with a goal in the 74th minute. A foul was called in the box, leading to a penalty kick with just three minutes remaining. Scott Fernandez put the Bobcats' second goal on the scoreboard.

Notre Dame will hit the road again for a matchup against Alderson Broaddus University, on Sept. 21. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
