Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s soccer falls to nationally-ranked Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. – On Sunday evening, Notre Dame College had a tough test, going on the road to open Mountain East Conference play against No. 10 ranked Davis & Elkins College. The Senators would open the scoring in the 37th minute and add three goals in the second half to win, 4-0.

The two teams were pretty even through the first 20 minutes, each taking two shots. NDC's sophomore Connor O'Reilly took the first shot of the game, off a pass from freshman Jose Rivas. He launched the ball toward the goal from just outside the top of the box, but did not convert.

In the 24th minute, the Falcons had an opportunity and the ball found sophomore Carlos Almeida running at a full sprint. Just in front of D&E goalkeeper Beltran Fernandez, Almeida headed the ball as he fell to the ground. Fernandez made the stop.

Fernandez would make another nice stop in the 38th minute. The Falcons were in a great spot, on the left side of the field with a free kick. The ball bounced off the crossbar, around the box and freshman Eden Ben Hagay nearly found the net, but the shot was deflected away.

Davis & Elkins scored in the 37th minute, on a play where the ball was sent from one side of the box the to the other, the NDC defense worked to get back into position, but Bruno Rivera scored from the right side.

In the second half, the Senators would score in the 45th minute, the 76th minute and the 87th.

Senior Kai Wagner and Rivas each had a shot on target in the second stanza for NDC. Wagner and Almeida led the team with two shots in the contest. Goalkeeper Pedro Alves stopped five shots on target.

NDC will come back home to face Wheeling University on August 31, at 4 p.m.
