Women’s lacrosse plays three games this week and they celebrate the seniors on Sunday

This Week: Notre Dame College women's lacrosse is on the road for a pair of games during the week. On April 5, they battle No. 2 University of Indianapolis, at 7 p.m. The Falcons will head to the University of Charleston, on April 7, for a 3 p.m. start. On April 10, NDC comes home to face Davis & Elkins College. First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Senior Day: The team will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday, April 10. Taylor Skomp, Ebony Reddick, Kyela Dixon, Emily Thomson, Emileigh Scott, Danyelle Hardy and Mackenzie Levine will be honored before the game.

Schedule Change: The game against UIndy was originally scheduled to be played on March 27, but was postponed due to snow.

Records: Notre Dame got off to a fast start in conference play, defeating West Virginia Wesleyan and Frostburg State last week. The Falcons now have a record of 3-4 (2-0 MEC). Indianapolis is 9-1 on the season, with their only loss coming to No. 8 Adelphi. Charleston enters the week with a record of 3-4 (1-0 MEC) and Davis & Elkins is 4-5 (1-1 MEC).

Coaches Corner: Ben Morhac is in his third season at the helm of the Notre Dame program. He has a record of 17-10 with a 11-1 mark in the MEC. James Delaney is in his fourth season on the sideline at UIndy. He has a record of 57-9. Mike Tyrrell is the head coach at the University of Charleston and David Pomeroy is in his first season as the head coach at Davis & Elkins.

Rankings: UIndy is currently ranked No. 2 in the latest the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) top 25 poll.

Series History: Notre Dame is 0-2 all-time against UIndy after playing the Greyhounds in 2020 and 2021. The Falcons are 5-3 against Charleston, defeating the Golden Eagles three times last year, including a triple overtime thriller on the road and a 15-10 win in the MEC Semifinals. NDC is 2-1 against Davis & Elkins.

Noting the Falcons: The Falcons jumped into conference play and picked up right where they left off last season. Looking to defend their MEC Championship, NDC scored 12 goals in the first half against West Virginia Wesleyan, on March 30. The Falcons won 19-6. In a rematch of the 2021 conference title game, NDC put up 12 in the first half against Frostburg State. NDC would outscore the Bobcats 10-2 in the second half and win by a score of 22-8. Their 22 goals marked a season-high.

For the third time this season, Notre Dame swept the Mountain East Conference Player of the Week honors. Emileigh Scott totaled 10 goals and 25 draw controls throughout the week. Her eight goals against Frostburg State ranks tied for second in NDC history for a single game. Alicyn Loberg was given Defensive Player of the Week after she caused five turnovers over the two games.

Piper Hammond had a really solid performance, totaling 12 points in two games. Against W.Va. Wesleyan, she scored four goals and assisted on a goal. In the Frostburg State game, she had three goals and a career-high four assists. Danyelle Hardy returned and gave NDC four goals and a career-high five assists, against W.Va. Wesleyan, scoring her first goal in over two years.

Emileigh Scott currently ranks first in the conference in goals per game (3.43), draw controls (75) and draw controls per game (10.71). She is second in points per game (3.86) and total goals (24). Mackenzie Levine is first in the conference with a goals against average of 10.05. Also in conference ranks, Alicyn Loberg is third in draw controls per game (3.71), Megan Dano is second in assists per game (1.5) and Charlotte Vari is fourth (1.14). As a team, the Falcons lead the conference with 12.43 goals per game, 6.29 assists per game, 18.71 points per game, caused turnovers per game (9.71) and draw controls per game (15.29). In national ranks, Scott is third in the country in draw controls per game.

Noting the Greyhounds: UIndy has not played at home since March 6, yet they have gone 5-1 in six consecutive games away from home. This season, the Greyhounds have beaten four top 25 ranked opponents. They defeated No. 10 Grand Valley State (14-8), No. 25 Davenport (22-10), No. 1 Le Moyne (11-10) and No. 16 Tampa (15-8). UIndy's only loss of the season came against No. 8 Adelphi, 7-5. Over the last two games, they have outscored their opponents (Findlay and Lewis) 40-5.

In their only game last week, a 19-3 win over Lewis, Abigail Lagos (6) and Quinn Malcolm (5) combined to score 11 goals.

Abigail Lagos now leads NCAA Division II in shots on goal per game (8.2) and free position goals per game (1.7), she is 4th in goals per game (4.7), 9th in total goals (47), 13th in points per game (5.6) and 17th in total points (56). Peyton Romig is second in draw controls per game (11.8). As a team, the Greyhounds are fourth in the country in goals allowed per game (5.9), fifth in draw controls per game (18.2) and seventh in saves percentage (.508).

Noting the Golden Eagles: Charleston got the conference season started with an 18-4 win over Davis & Elkins, last Wednesday. The UC defense allowed just one goal each quarter to D&E. Sophia Conzone and Gianni Blundell led the team with five goals, each.

Sophia Conzone is fourth in the MEC in goals per game (2.57) and fifth in points per game (2.86). Goalkeeper Georgia Ryan is second in the conference with a goals against average of 13.53. Madison Sobolewski is tied for the league lead with 1.57 caused turnovers per game, while Gianni Blundell ranks second with 4.29 draw controls per game. Charleston leads the MEC in ground balls per game (21.43) and they rank second in goals per game (11.14), points per game (13.86), caused turnovers per game (9.71) and draw controls per game (12).

Noting the Senators: Davis & Elkins played two games last week. They lost to Charleston, 18-4, on Wednesday, and then defeated West Virginia Wesleyan, 22-9, on senior day, on Saturday. The Senators are now 3-2 at home but 1-3 on the road.

In the win over WVWC, Emily Smith had seven goals and three caused turnovers. Haley Leavines had six goals and Griselle Rosado added five goals, while Ari Hinton and Mikaela Vento each assisted on four goals. Marissa Cuevas made 14 saves.

Ari Hinton leads the MEC with 1.75 assists per game and 4.88 points per game. She is second with 3.13 goals per game. Emily Smith ranks third in points per game (3.44) and caused turnovers per game (1.56). She ranks fifth, with 2.56 goals per game and 0.89 assists per game. Goalkeeper Marissa Cuevas leads the MEC in save percentage (.507) and saves per game (15.33).
