Gumont records four RBI in doubleheader, as NDC splits with Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Five of Notre Dame College's seven runs came in the first inning of the two games on Saturday. The Falcons fell to Glenville State University, 7-2, in the first game and bounced back with a 5-2 victory in game two. NDC has now won six of their last eight contests.

Notre Dame's only runs of game one came in the first inning. Senior Daniele Rivera walked and freshman Emma Gumont launched a homer over the left field fence.

NDC held a 2-0 lead as pitcher Allison Weilnau faced the minimum through the first two innings. GSU scored their first run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Jasmine Runk.

Glenville State tied the game, took the lead and expanded the lead in the fourth inning. The Pioneers scored five runs on two RBI singles and a three-run triple. GSU led 6-2.

The home team would plate one more run in the sixth inning, on a sacrifice fly.

Glenville State's pitcher Holly Brehm (12-7) earned the victory after allowing just two runs on two hits and struck out 13 batters in a complete game.

Notre Dame's offense bounced back in a big way in game two, scoring five runs on 13 hits and it all began in the first inning. Sophomore Katelyn DeWeese and Rivera singled to start the game. Gumont put the Falcons in front, once again, with a two-run double. She would later score the third run of the inning on a wild pitch.

Monica Rodelo homered to lead off the bottom of the second inning to make the score 3-1, but the Pioneers would not score another run until the sixth.

NDC pitcher Madison Olszewski (6-6) received the win after throwing a complete game, allowing just two runs on four hits.

Senior Mikaela Fording doubled to lead off the Falcons' fourth inning and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. DeWeese hit an RBI groundout to put NDC up 4-1.

After GSU scored a run in the sixth, NDC's Meadow Odum doubled in the top of the seventh inning to score Gumont, who had led off the inning with a single.

Senior Lexi Rehm went 3-for-3 for the Falcons while DeWeese and Fording both went 2-for-2 in the second game. Gumont was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored.

Notre Dame wraps up their road trip in Athens, W.Va., tomorrow, as they battle Concord at 12 and 2 p.m.
