Women’s lacrosse breaks offensive records, Reddick sets assists mark

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College broke program records, and Mountain East Conference records, with 26 goals and 42 points, on Friday. They set a program record, and finished second in the MEC, with 16 assists. Senior Ebony Reddick had nine assists, which breaks the program and MEC record, and finished the day with 12 points, which is second in program history. Notre Dame rolled to a 26-4 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Falcons did not wait long against the Bobcats, as Reddick passed to sophomore Charlotte Vari for a goal with 14:17 to go in the first quarter. Less than a minute later, sophomore McKenna Kincaid scored her first goal of the game, after winning the draw control.

West Virginia Wesleyan struggled to maintain possession and give their offense a chance. WVWC had 10 turnovers in the first stanza. NDC took advantage and scored five goals on the possession following a turnover.

At the end of the first quarter, Notre Dame held a 7-2 lead.

The Falcons looked even stronger in the second quarter, as they scored the first six goals of the period. Reddick assisted on three of the goals and junior Megan Dano added an assist and two goals during the run.

After W.Va. Wesleyan scored to stop the NDC run, graduate student Emileigh Scott and sophomore Charlotte Vari each had a goal to finish the half and NDC went into the break with 15 goals, a season-high in a single half.

Scott would finish the game with five goals and won 11 draw controls. She is now two draw controls away from breaking the MEC single season record.

The Falcons would outscore West Virginia Wesleyan 11-1 in the final 30 minutes. Reddick had the first goal and the last goal of the third quarter. In between those two goals, four different players (Madison Hauffman, Charlotte Vari, Piper Hammond, Lexington Carson) scored.

The Bobcats scored their only goal of the second half with 11:20 on the fourth quarter clock.

After scoring a season-high six goals in her last game, against Frostburg State, Reddick set the career mark with nine assists, to go along with three goals.

"I'm getting more comfortable, after tearing my ACL, I feel as though now I'm getting back to the pre-injury Ebony," Reddick said.

Senior Danyelle Hardy scored her only goal of the game in the fourth and the final two goals of the game were scored by Hauffman, who finished the game with a career-high three goals.

Vari tied a career-high with five goals scored and Carson tied a career-high with two. Freshman Hannah Gjaltema tied a career-high with two assists.

Hammond has now scored three goals in three consecutive games. She also had three caused turnovers and a career-high three draw controls. Loberg and Dano each had three caused turnovers.

"Great team win today," head coach Ben Morhac exclaimed. "Having 10 different goal scorers is amazing and the amount of goals we had off of assists was great. The draw team did well and defense had timely caused turnovers. It was an all-around team win today."

Notre Dame will travel to Davis & Elkins College on April 24, with a start time of 2 p.m.
