AVON, Ohio – This weekend, Notre Dame College used clutch hitting and solid defense to complete a three-game series sweep of Lake Erie College. On Saturday, NDC had to comeback to win 3-2.
Ben Ross and
Parker Hray each had a double and a triple and the Falcons totaled 10 hits.
Lake Erie was threatening in the first inning, after Treyvon Fletcher led off with a single. He stole second and third, but was stranded there.
With one out in the second inning, Hray hit a ball into the gap in right center field. He would motor all the way to third base. Freshman
Nate Miller grounded out to the shortstop, allowing Hray to put the first run on the board.
NDC starting pitcher
Kyle Farrell put the Storm down in order in back-to-back innings in the second and third, while the Falcons' offense plated two more runs in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore
Aaron Miller led off the bottom of the third with a single and Ross drove him home with a triple to left center. Senior
Nick Farrell grounded out to second base and Ross touched home plate, giving NDC a 3-0 advantage.
Zac Pokorny led off the fifth inning for Lake Erie with a big fly to left field to put the Storm on the board. Connor Shimek then singled, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Zach Saffell doubled him in to make the score 3-2 in favor of Notre Dame. Junior
Hayden Parker entered to pitch for the Falcons, but once Lake Erie tied the game at three, junior
Jesse Clark took the mound with bases loaded and nobody out. He was able to get through the inning only allowing one run and LEC led 4-3.
Clark went three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and he would pick up his first victory of the season as the NDC offense came up clutch in the seventh inning. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, senior
Shane Mittleman launched a ball over the fence in left field for a solo homer to tie the game at four.
Aaron Miller then singled with a bunt placed between the pitcher and the third baseman. He stole second and came around to score when Ross doubled down the left field line.
In the top of the eighth,
Aaron Miller moved from right field to the mound with a runner on first base and no outs. Miller earned his first career save after going two scoreless innings.
Ross had two hits, both multi-base hits, and showed off the leather at shortstop by making a solid stop diving to his right, getting up and making the throw to first for the out. Hray had three hits and was a single shy of the cycle. Junior Michael Zueli and
Aaron Miller each had two hits.
Over the three games against Lake Erie, NDC did not commit an error.
The Falcons head to Florida for a matchup with Rollins College, in Winter Park. That game will take place on March 8, at 1 p.m.
