AVON, Ohio – A cold Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Health Stadium featured NDC's
Devin Fish pitch a career outing, however Notre Dame (8-16, 4-4 MEC) fell 13-2 to Mercyhurst (13-3). In his first start of the season, Fish tossed a career-high six innings, allowing two earned on three hits and punching out nine (career-high).
The Falcons posted the first crooked number of the day when
Austin Mora doubled into the left field corner, allowing
Hayden Parker to score from first base with two outs in the second (1-0).
In the next inning,
Ben Ross drew a leadoff walk, and eventually scored on a
Tyler Shadle RBI single through the left side a few batters later (2-0).
The aforementioned Fish tossed a stellar game for head coach
Len Barker and the Falcons, Fish exited the contest three batters into the seventh inning, having yet to allow a run. However, the redshirt junior was responsible for the two runners on base when NDC opted to turn towards the bullpen. The Lakers pounced on the NDC pen during the seventh inning by scoring 11 runs on eight hits, after being held to zero runs on three hits by Fish during the previous six innings.
Mercyhurst scored two more insurance runs during the eighth inning via walks to ensure a 13-2 victory on the day. Both sides surrendered several walks during the game, with NDC allowing 11 free passes to MU's eight.
Offensively for Notre Dame, six different Falcons recorded a hit on the day, with Mora and Shadle generating the two runs driven in.
Notre Dame will be back in action on Saturday Apr. 2 at 1:00 p.m. for an MEC doubleheader against Davis & Elkins College at Mercy Health Stadium. The Falcons will turnaround and host West Virginia Wesleyan College on Sunday Apr. 3 for another MEC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
