Women’s lacrosse looks to fend off Bobcats this week

This Week: Notre Dame College women's lacrosse hits the road to battle West Virginia Wesleyan College, on March 30, at 2 p.m. They will come home to play Frostburg State University, on April 2. First draw on Saturday is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Records: Notre Dame went 1-4 in the non-conference portion of the schedule. West Virginia Wesleyan holds a record of 2-3, while Frostburg State is 1-5.

Coaches Corner: Ben Morhac is in his third season at the helm of the Notre Dame program. He has a record of 15-10 with a 9-1 mark in the MEC. Hannah Lively is now in her sixth season with W.Va. Wesleyan and enters with a record of 17-48-1, overall, and 3-27 in the MEC. Taylor Sindall enters her second season as head coach at Frostburg State. Last year, the Bobcats went 10-5, with an 8-2 conference mark.

Rankings: None of these teams are ranked in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) top 25 poll. In the final 2021 regional rankings, Notre Dame was sixth in the Midwest Region.

Series History: Notre Dame is 8-4 against West Virginia Wesleyan since the teams first met in 2011. The Falcons went 2-1 against Frostburg State in their first season against each other in 2021.

Noting the Falcons: Notre Dame looks to defend its Mountain East Conference title, beginning on Wednesday. The Falcons went 9-1 in conference play last season, taking the regular season and tournament titles. Saturday's game will be a rematch of the MEC Championship game, when NDC defeated Frostburg State, 14-10, last April.

Emileigh Scott leads the team with 14 goals, three free position goals and 50 draw controls. She ranks third in NCAA Division II with 10 draw controls per game. Last week, against No. 17 Roberts Wesleyan, Scott totaled three goals and tied a season-high with 13 draw controls. Freshman Joselyn Storm is second on the team with seven goals and Megan Dano has scored six times to go along with eight assists.

Noting the WVWC Bobcats: West Virginia Wesleyan has won two games this season, after going 0-10 last spring. They defeated Edinboro, 9-3, on March 2 and then beat Randolph, 15-7, on March 26. In their win over Randolph, the Bobcats had balanced scoring as Emma Adcock scored five goals, while both Isabella Verona and Kaitlynn Canby each had three. Adcock also added two assists.

Adcock leads the squad with 14 goals and is tied for the lead with three assists and two free position goals. Makenzi Lewellyn has caused nine turnovers and is tied for the team lead with 17 draw controls. Canby also has 17 draw controls. Maggie Wroe has played every minute in goal for WVWC, saving 55 shots. Wroe leads the country with six ground balls per game.

Noting the FSU Bobcats: Frostburg State went 1-1 last week. They lost to Missouri Western State after MWSU scored the game-winner with 43-seconds remaining. The game was tied at eight after three quarters. FSU got in the win column when they defeated Barton 12-7, on March 24. Frostburg took a 6-2 lead at halftime and added to their lead in the fourth quarter. Stephanie King led the team with four goals in that game and eight players each scored one goal. Lindsay Kohlmann won eight draw controls.

This season, Anna Kearney has 14 goals with six free position goals. Stephanie King is second on the team with nine goals. Cammie Schniedwind has totaled seven goals and eight assists, while Lilly Stephens seven goals. Cameron Baldwin has won 15 draw controls.
