Women’s lacrosse battles two nationally ranked opponents on Mueller Field

This Week: Notre Dame College women's lacrosse has a couple of tests this week, on Mueller Field. On March 23, the Falcons take on No. 17 Roberts Wesleyan College, at 3 p.m. NDC will host No. 2 University of Indianapolis, on March 27, at 12 p.m.

Records: Notre Dame is 1-3 to start this season. Roberts Wesleyan comes in with a 4-2 mark, while UIndy is 6-1.

Coaches Corner: Ben Morhac is in his third season at the helm of the Notre Dame program. He has a record of 16-8 with a 9-1 mark in the MEC. Kristin Paolini is in her seventh season at RWC and James Delaney enters his fifth season on the sideline of UIndy.

Rankings: UIndy is ranked second in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) top 25 poll, with two first-place votes. Roberts Wesleyan is No. 17 in the latest IWLCA poll. In the final 2021 regional rankings, Notre Dame was sixth in the Midwest Region.

Series History: Notre Dame is 0-2 all-time against Roberts Wesleyan. The two teams first faced each other in 2014. The Falcons have played Indianapolis the past two seasons and have an 0-2 record against the Greyhounds.

Noting the Falcons: NDC dropped two contests last week, falling 16-9 against Walsh and 16-4 against No. 10 Grand Valley State. Last week, Emileigh Scott led the Falcons with five goals. She leads the Falcons with 11 goals on the season and ranks seventh in the country with 9.25 draw controls per game. Megan Dano also scored a goal in each game last week and recorded two assists against Walsh. Dano now has 14 points on the season, which leads the Falcons, and leads the team with eight assists. Piper Hammond has caused nine turnovers.
 
Noting the Redhawks: Roberts Wesleyan went 1-1 last week, but the loss came against No. 2 Le Moyne. In that game, the Redhawks outscored Le Moyne 6-4 in the second half, but RWC's comeback fell just short as they lost by a score of 13-11. In the game against Le Moyne, Ellen O'Neil and Lindsey Brinkel each had four goals. Brinkel also had four assists in the game and now has 23 goals and 23 assists on the year. Madison Bell has totaled 27 goals and 15 assists this season. On the defensive side, Alexis Grant and Madelyn Robinson each have 14 caused turnovers.

Noting the Greyhounds: UIndy has not allowed more than 10 goals this season, despite playing five ranked opponents. The Greyhounds have defeated No. 10 Grand Valley State, 14-8, No. 25 Davenport, 22-10, No. 1 Le Moyne, 11-10, and No. 16 Tampa, 15-8. Their only loss came last Wednesday at the hands of No. 8 Adelphi, 7-5. This season, UIndy has outscored their opponents, 107-48. They have six players who have scored in double-digits, with Abigail Lagos leading the way with 33. Sarah Klein has totaled 18 goals and 10 assists, while Peyton Romig has caused 11 turnovers.
