NDC falls to Roberts Wesleyan on rainy afternoon

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Notre Dame College took on another top 25 opponent on Wednesday, as they battled No. 17 Roberts Wesleyan College. The rain fell for most of the contest as the Redhawks jumped out to an early lead and won 15-5.

Through the first five minutes of the contest, the Falcons kept Roberts Wesleyan off the scoreboard. Junior Megan Dano caused a turnover and then goalkeeper Mackenzie Levine saved a shot, with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Down on the other side of the field, the Falcons were able to get the ball over to senior Ebony Reddick, who had a good look at the goal. Her shot was saved by RWC goalkeeper Natalie Arieno.
Roberts Wesleyan's Madison Bell scored the first goal of the contest with 9:29 on the first quarter clock. Notre Dame would get on the board following a draw control by graduate student Emileigh Scott, which led to a goal by freshman Joselyn Storm.

NDC scored two more goals in the second quarter. Less than two minutes into the period, junior Alicyn Loberg was fouled and converted on a free position attempt. The Falcons called a timeout with just over five minutes remaining. After the break, Scott won the draw control and then scored the first of her three goals on the day. Scott also tied a season-high with 13 draw controls.

At halftime, Roberts Wesleyan led 12-3.

Scott would score both goals in the second half for the Falcons. She scored once in the third and then put the ball in the net with 3:54 to go in the fourth quarter, the only goal for either side in the final stanza.

The game was called near the three minute mark, as thunderstorms moved into the area.

Sophomores McKenna Kincaid and Charlotte Vari each had an assist for NDC. The Falcons caused 11 turnovers as freshmen Camille Brathwaite and Madeline Mancini, along with Dano, led the way with two, each.

The Falcons will host No. 2 University of Indianapolis on Sunday, March 27. The game is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
