Softball runs into tough pitching in West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Notre Dame College wrapped up their road trip in West Liberty, on Monday. The Falcons fell to the Hilltoppers 4-0 in game one and 8-0 in game two. Senior Daniele Rivera led NDC with three hits on the day.

West Liberty took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the game one. Notre Dame was able to get their offense going in the top of the third. Senior Lexi Rehm doubled to lead off the inning and with one out, sophomore Meadow Odum was hit by a pitch. Rivera singled up the middle and loaded the bases, but the Falcons did not score.

Trailing 4-0, after WLU scored a run in the fourth and the fifth, NDC's Emma Gumont singled in the top of the sixth. Junior Emily Marsh doubled to left-center, allowing Gumont to reach third. Gumont tried to come home and get the Falcons on the board, but was thrown out.

NDC did have six hits in the contest, as six different Falcons had one hit. Freshman Allison Weilnau pitched five innings, and allowed just one earned run, while four runs were credited to her.

To begin game two, the Hilltoppers got off to a fast start. They scored two runs in the first inning, again, but then put up five runs in the second inning to pull ahead 7-0.

Sophomore McKenzie Anderson singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the sixth inning.

Rivera and Anderson both recorded two hits in game two.

Sophomore Madison Olszewski came on in relief and pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing just one run.

NDC will get right back on the field, tomorrow, when they host Ursuline College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
