Scott tallies three goals, Falcons fall to Walsh

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The snow melted and the sun was out on Wednesday afternoon as Notre Dame College hosted Walsh University. The Falcons outscored WU in the fourth quarter, but Walsh held on to win, 16-9.

In the first quarter, Walsh put the first six goals on the board. NDC's first goal of the contest came with just under seven minutes on the clock, when junior Megan Dano found graduate student Emileigh Scott in front of the net.

At the end of the first quarter, the Cavaliers led by a score of 8-3. Scott had two of the three goals for NDC.

To start the second period, Scott won the draw control and freshman Lexington Carson went down the field and gave NDC its fourth goal of the game. Notre Dame would score one more time in the quarter, when Scott put her third goal in the back of the net. At halftime, Walsh led 11-5.

Dano scored the Falcons' only goal of the third quarter and Walsh led 14-6 after three. To start the fourth quarter, Notre Dame closed within six goals. Scott won the opening draw control and freshman Joselyn Storm took a shot that was saved. Senior Ebony Reddick then picked the ball up and found the net. Five minutes later, freshman Madeline Mancini caused a turnover and freshman Piper Hammond scored on the other end of the field to cut the deficit to six, 14-8, with 9:22 remaining in the contest.

Walsh would score two of the final three goals and maintained their distance over the Falcons.

On the defensive side, Hammond caused three turnovers in the game, while Storm and Mancini each had two.

The Falcons will travel to meet No. 10 Grand Valley State University, on March 19. That game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
