SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – In Notre Dame College's 2022 home opener the snow started to fall prior to first draw. Northern Michigan University grabbed a 5-3 lead after the first quarter and held on over the next two quarters for a 13-11 win. The snow continued to fall and the game was official after three quarters.
Madeline Bittell scored the first goal for Northern Michigan and would go on to score four of NMU's five goals in the first quarter. Sophomore
Charlotte Vari scored the first goal of the day for NDC and then assisted on the second.
Freshman
Joselyn Storm made her presence known when she scored Notre Dame's second goal in the first quarter, assisted on the final goal of the first stanza and then brought the Falcons within one, 5-4, with a goal early in the second quarter.
Notre Dame went on a run to end the second quarter. Inside five minutes to go before halftime, NDC put the ball in the back of the net three times. At halftime, NDC trailed by two, 9-7.
Freshman
Lexington Carson won the first draw of the third quarter and that led to a goal by junior
Megan Dano. NDC was down by just one goal, 9-8, before Northern Michigan put the next two goals on the board.
The Falcons had fallen behind 13-9, with 6:32 on the third quarter clock. Notre Dame's offense then started attacking closer to the goal. Their next two goals, by graduate student
Emileigh Scott and senior
Ebony Reddick, came off of free position shots.
However, the final goal of the game hit the back of the net with 3:09 remaining in the third quarter. The game was called prior to the fourth quarter.
Scott, Dano and Storm led the Falcons with two goals, each. Freshman
Piper Hammond and Scott both had three caused turnovers.
The Falcons will host Lake Erie College, on March 13. The match is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
