OWENSBORO, Ky. – After rain moved through on Thursday, the Blue Bridge Battle schedule was changed. On Friday, Notre Dame College played the University of Illinois Springfield and Northwood University. The Falcons fell to Illinois Springfield, 12-1, and then lost to Northwood by a score of 17-4.
In game one, Illinois Springfield put the first four runs on the board over the first three innings. NDC's senior
Lexi Rehm hit an infield single to start the fourth inning. She stole second and then scored on a single by sophomore
Ellen Wheatland. NDC would have runners on first and third, but did not get another run home.
In the second game, junior
Emily Marsh led off the bottom of the second inning and, two batters later, sophomore
McKenzie Anderson singled to left field, moving Marsh to second. With two down, senior
Alexi Maciejowski doubled to center field, scoring Marsh. Anderson was thrown out at home on the play.
The Falcons put together a solid fifth inning after two quick outs to begin the frame. Rehm, senior
Mikaela Fording and Wheatland all walked to load the bases. Following a pitching change, Marsh was hit by a pitch to score a run. Freshman
Ella Collinsworth then pinch hit and doubled to plate two more runs.
Maciejowski and senior
Daniele Rivera each had two hits in the second game of the day.
Notre Dame takes the field on Saturday to play Quincy University, at 3 p.m., and the University of Southern Indiana, at 5 p.m.
