ATHENS, W.Va. – A slow start to the contest gave way to sophomore
Karli Anker's game-high and career-high 19 points scored. However, the NDC Falcons (2-6, 1-3 MEC) fell to the Concord University Mountain Lions (2-5, 1-3 MEC), 77-64 on Saturday afternoon.
CU began the game with a 12-0 run, before claiming the first quarter 26-13. The Mountain Lions continued their momentum into the second quarter, winning the frame 15-11 to lead 41-24 at the half. Anker tallied three of her career-high 19 points on a buzzer-beater before the break.
The Falcons came out of the half fired up as they generated a 10-2 run on back-to-back three-pointers by Anker and redshirt sophomore
Alana Ellis. With the run, NDC had trimmed the CU lead to 11 (45-34) with 6:58 to play in the third quarter. However, Concord worked their lead back up to 17 (62-45) with 10 minutes to play.
Notre Dame battled until the very end by winning the fourth quarter 19-15, before falling 77-64 on the road.
Anker paced the NDC offense on an efficient 6-10 from the field, including 5-7 from three-point land to tally her career-high 19 points. She was joined by Ellis's 16 points scored.
Senior
Marina Adachi tied her career-high with four assists, leading the game.
Junior
Lizzie Imrie contributed eight points and tied her career-high with eight rebounds on the day.
As a team, NDC shot 23-56 (41.1%) from the field, 9-17 (52.9%) from three and 9-19 (47.4%) from the free throw line.
The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. when the Falcons travel to Davis & Elkins College.
