Adachi's monster night propels NDC to low-scoring win at Ursuline

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – A pivotal 12-0 run in the third quarter paired with excellent shooting by senior Marina Adachi led Notre Dame College (2-4) to a 52-49 victory over Ursuline College (3-3) on Saturday evening. The Falcons held the Arrows to a season-low 49 points scored.
 
Right out of the gate, Adachi began the game with a three-pointer, one of her season-high five made threes on the day.
 
A low scoring, back-and-forth first quarter would come to an end at 12-10 UC.
 
The Arrows played well during the second quarter by extending their lead to double digits, before taking a 30-22 advantage into the break.
 
Notre Dame ramped up their intensity during the second half by outscoring Ursuline in the third (16-10) and fourth quarters (14-9).
 
In the third quarter, UC opened up their largest lead of the game (37-26) with 6:51 remaining in the period. Next, several Falcons recorded baskets as NDC generated a 12-0 run to regain the lead (38-37) with 41 seconds to go. The Arrows led a narrow 40-38 lead as the two sides headed into the fourth quarter.
 
Adachi posted a monster fourth quarter, first by netting the Falcons first eight points on the frame, to deliver Notre Dame the lead once more, 46-45 with 4:52 left in the game. NDC would maintain the lead for the remainder of the contest, as Adachi hammered down the win for the Falcons. With 22 seconds remaining, UC held possession trailing 50-49, and their sights set on a game-winning basket. However, the Attica, Ohio native stepped in the middle of the paint a took a charge, turning the ball over to the Falcons. Then the Seneca East High School product knocked down a pair of free throws to ice the contest at 52-49 NDC.
 
Notre Dame was paced offensively by Adachi's game-high and season-high 21 points on 5-8 shooting from three, including going 6-6 from the free throw line. In addition, she grabbed a season-high five rebounds.
 
Freshman Noel Weathers contributed on the offensive end with a career-high 13 points on 6-11 from the field. She also logged a game-high and career-high nine rebounds in the contest.
 
Sophomore Karli Anker stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, while tallying career-highs in assists (3), rebounds (4) and blocks (2). She also added four steals.
 
As a team, Notre Dame shot 19-53 (35.8%) from the field, 6-19 (31.6%) from three and 8-10 (80.0%) from the charity stripe. Ursuline registered 14-46 (30.4%) from the floor, 4-20 (20.0%) from three and 17-20 (85.0%) from the free throw line. Moreover, the Falcons won a tight rebounding (28-26) and turnover battle (18-22) on the evening.
 
The Notre Dame College women's basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m. when Glenville State University comes to Murphy Gymnasium.
