CHARLESTON W.Va. – A strong defensive effort comes up short for Notre Dame College (14-19) in the MEC Quarterfinal Round, as Charleston (31-3) won in straight sets. Sophomore libero 
Kiley Kalina ended the season on a high note by setting the program record with 34 digs in a three-set match.
 
NDC started the game well with a 9-7 lead following a pair of blocks by sophomore 
Jayme Zoeckler. UC was able to carve out a 9-3 run in response, to move ahead 16-12. Despite the Falcons pulling within three (22-19), the Golden Eagles took set one, 25-19.
 
The second set was controlled by Charleston, as they held a 15-6 lead and never looked back. UC took the second frame 25-18.
 
During the final set, the Golden Eagles commanded an 8-4 advantage. The Falcons continued to fight until the final play as they tied the score at 13-13. Senior 
Kaye Dregalla produced five kills in the stanza, but Notre Dame came up short, 25-18 in the end.
 
Notre Dame College was led offensively by sophomore 
Samantha Comer's team-high 13 kills, along with Dregalla who had  nine.
 
Sophomore 
Jayme Zoeckler dished out a team-high 25 assists for the NDC attack.
 
Defensively, and as aforementioned, Kalina put an exclamation point on the end of her season by notching the most digs in a three-set match in NDC program history )34). She is also tied for the 10
th most digs in any match in school history.
 
Fellow sophomore 
Grace Smotek tallied 17 digs to aid the back line.
 
As a unit, the Falcons dug out 81 attacks, marking the fifth most in a three-set match in NDC program history.
 
At the net, Zoeckler, senior 
Carli Derda, senior 
Blaire Barr and freshman 
Ryleigh Ronald each blocked three attacks on the evening.
 
The Notre Dame College volleyball team's season has concluded after making the MEC Tournament for the fifth year in a row. The Falcons will be back in action come August of 2023.
