Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

NDC falls to nationally ranked Charleston

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – On Sunday, Notre Dame College was looking to extend its win streak to nine games against No. 9 ranked University of Charleston. The visiting Golden Eagles scored a goal in each half to win 2-0, handing the Falcons their first loss since Sept. 4.

With Notre Dame missing a few top players, Charleston went on the attack right away and scored in the first four minutes of the game. Felipe Mercado found the net to give UC a 1-0 advantage.

NDC goalkeeper Pedro Alves had a solid day, despite the two goals by the Golden Eagles. He faced 14 UC shots, which is the second most this season, and had a career-high six saves.

After Charleston took two shots in the first six minutes of the contest, the NDC defense settled in and only allowed three shots the rest of the half.

Notre Dame took one shot on goal in the first half, in the 22nd minute, when sophomore Ailton Fagner Silva's shot was saved by Charleston's Marc Torrado.

UC struck early in the second half, as well. Within the first twelve minutes, Charleston had taken three shots on target. Alves was able to make athletic saves on two of the shots but the Golden Eagles did score a second time in the 52nd minute, off the foot of Giorgos Diakos.

Freshman Simao Coelho and senior Ned Dry had Notre Dame's shots on target in the second half.

The Falcons will be off for the next six days and then will travel to Frostburg State University, on Oct. 16, for a 2 p.m. start.
