FROSTBURG, Md. – On Sunday, Notre Dame College scored a goal late in the first half and two in the second to get past Frostburg State University by a score of 3-0. The Falcons secured their ninth win in the last ten games.
The NDC defense recorded its eighth shutout of the season, which is the most since 2019.
In the attacking third, Notre Dame had plenty of opportunities throughout the first half. The Falcons took eight shots in the first 45 minutes.
However, with about nine minutes to go in the opening stanza, Frostburg State nearly scored first. Danny Caparotti ran and caught up to a pass in front of him and was one-on-one with Notre Dame goalkeeper
Pedro Alves. Alves went to the ground to try and trap the ball, but it rolled past before sophomore
Callum Cleary and freshman
Rafael Kuwakino worked to clear it away.
About three minutes later, Notre Dame found the net. Sophomore
Taylor Dyson was in the box and received a pass from sophomore
Marcus Vinicius Pereira. Dyson made a move to the left to shake a defender in front of him and sent the ball in for a goal.
Dyson put another shot on target, a little over a minute into the second half, but it was saved by FSU goalkeeper Brennan Moore.
Following an NDC throw-in in the 50th minute, the ball was headed multiple times. Senior
Ned Dry jumped and sent the ball back to sophomore
Connor O'Reilly, who was a couple feet outside of the box. O'Reilly settled and put the ball through for the second goal.
Another throw-in led to a goal in the 73rd minute. Standing on the sideline to the left, junior
Leonardo Palmieri led sophomore
Carlos Almeida toward the endline. Almeida moved the ball to the middle of the field and dumped it off to Dry, who immediately sent a line drive past the Bobcats' defense from close range.
The only shot on goal for Frostburg State came in the 73rd minute when a corner kick crossed the box from left to right. That led to a header and Alves snagged it out of the air.
The Falcons took 13 shots in the second half and outshot FSU 21-9 throughout the game. Dyson took five of the NDC shots and freshman
Simao Coelho launched four.
NDC will come back home to play West Virginia Wesleyan on Oct. 19, at 3 p.m.
