SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – A cold and rainy day on Mueller Field paved the way for a low-scoring affair between Notre Dame College (5-7-3, 4-6-3 MEC) and Fairmont State University (9-2-3, 9-2-2 MEC). In round two of the Falcon bowl, FSU avenged their defeat from earlier in the season with a 1-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon.
The shots came early and often in the match, as FSU's Kiera Kuzinski, logged four shots on target before the 30-minute mark. However, senior goalkeeper
Jordan Pasalaqua answered every call by tallying six total saves within the first 32 minutes of the contest.
As a result of Pasalaqua's strong goaltending, the score remained at 0-0 into the half.
Notre Dame ramped up their offensive attack in the second half by registering seven shots in the stanza. Freshman
Jahdai Vasquez and sophomore
Meredith Foster recorded shots on goal in the 47
th and 53
rd minutes, but the FSU keeper was there to make the save.
In the 68
th minute, Fairmont State's Tricia Lemasters broke the stalemate, with a game-winning goal.
Notre Dame's offense was led by Foster's four shots taken, followed by sophomore
Louisa Follert with two.
Pasalaqua posted seven saves, as both teams took 11 shots on the day. NDC won the corner kick battle at four to zero.
The Notre Dame College women's soccer team will be back in action on Sunday Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. when the Falcons travel to Glenville State University.
