FROSTBURG, Md. – Sunday's contest featured Notre Dame College, who entered the day riding a three-game win streak that included 23 goals scored, and Frostburg State University, who had recorded four shutouts in their first six games. On Sunday, Frostburg State put a goal on the board near the end of the first half and won 1-0.
The Falcons' defense did a solid job of limiting Frostburg State's chances throughout the game. FSU did not take a shot in the first 31 minutes and NDC out-shot the Bobcats 10-5 in the first 45 minutes.
The only goal of the contest was put into the net by Frostburg State's Alex Retzos in the 42nd minute. A free kick was taken by the Bobcats beyond midfield, but the ball was sent into the box toward NDC's goal. It took one bounce off the turf and before NDC's goalkeeper
Jack Groeneveld could secure it, Retzos was in the right spot to give the Bobcats the lead.
Notre Dame kept the pressure on and took six more shots in the second half. Four of them were taken inside the box.
Frostburg State's goalkeeper Joel Assal stopped six shots that were on target throughout the contest.
Freshman
Ailton Fagner Silva and sophomore
Lukas Hackaa led NDC with three shots taken. Silva had two shots on goal.
The Falcons come home to play Alderson Broaddus University on Sept. 29. The teams are set to kickoff at 1 p.m.
