EDINBORO, PA – Notre Dame College volleyball ran into a tall task on the road in Edinboro. The Fighting Scots took out the Falcons in three sets on Tuesday evening, moving NDC to 9-6 on the year and Edinboro to 7-1.
A back and forth first set gave way to the Fighting Scots pulling away in the latter half, 19-25. A flat start to set two for NDC allowed Edinboro to jump out to a 5-12 lead, leaving zero margin of error for the Falcons. Edinboro then grabbed seven straight points in the middle of the set to seal off the second stanza 16-25. After a 4-4 start in the final set, the Fighting Scots grabbed seven of the next ten points to pull into command in set three. Despite a valiant effort by NDC to pull the set back to even, 18-18, Edinboro polished off the rest of the match, 21-25.
On offense,
Kelsie Palmer led NDC with a team-high eight kills, followed by
Carli Derda with five,
Samantha Comer with four,
Grace Smotek and
Kaye Dregalla with three,
Brittany Miller with two and
Jayme Zoeckler,
Katie Richardson and
McKenzie Andrix all with one. Andrix set up the NDC attack with a team-high 14 assists followed by Zoeckler with eight.
On defense,
Kiley Kalina continues to step up on the back line with a team-high 11 digs, while Andrix added seven. At the net, Derda led the match with two solo blocks, with Palmer and Richardson also contributing a solo block each.
In total, Notre Dame had 28 kills on 94 total attacks (.128 hit percentage) with 25 assists. The Falcons also tallied 28 digs, four blocks and three service aces. In contrast, Edinboro had 49 kills on 100 total attacks (.320 hit percentage). They added 43 assists, 42 digs, two blocks and four service aces.
Notre Dame College volleyball will be back in action next Tuesday Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. when they travel to West Liberty, WV to face the Hilltoppers. It will be the first match of Mountain East Conference play under the Watson and Mezacapa era.
