PHILIPPI, W.Va. – For the third time this season, Notre Dame College scored over 20 goals in a game. On Thursday, the Falcons set season-highs in assists (10) and points (32) in a 22-6 victory over Alderson Broaddus University.
NDC's junior
Ebony Reddick grabbed the opening draw and was credited with an assist as sophomore
Alicyn Loberg scored the first goal of the game with 28:51 on the clock.
The Falcons scored three goals in the first three minutes, getting help from the defense who drew two turnovers that led to goals by seniors
Emily Thomson and
Selena Carter.
NDC threatened again, but had three shots that did not find the back of the net. The Battlers recovered and scored their first goal of the game on a shot by Terri Nashe with 25:47 to go before the half.
Four consecutive goals by Notre Dame put the Falcons on top, 7-1, and that run included three straight goals by sophomore
Kendal Johnson. Johnson would finish the game with career-highs in goals (7), points (9) and draw controls (6).
Reddick had a solid first half, scoring three goals and assisting on three others. Johnson had four goals and Paino added two. Notre Dame led, 13-3, after 30 minutes of play.
AB scored the first two goals of the second half, but then were shut down by goalkeeper
Mackenzie Levine, who gave Notre Dame six saves in the second half and 11 for the game, along with the Falcons' defense. The Battlers would only score one more goal the rest of the contest.
Johnson scored two goals and then junior
Megan Dano, who had assisted on Johnson's second goal of the half, scored back-to-back goals.
In the final 21 minutes of the contest, NDC outscored Alderson Broaddus, 9-1. Paino scored with 10 seconds remaining to put the Falcons up, 22-6.
"We struggled on the draw today but we picked up other areas of our game to help," said head coach
Ben Morhac. "Our ride was amazing, we got some big saves out of Kenz [Levine] and we really shared the ball on offense. Things are starting to come together. We are excited for our match up on Sunday."
Nine different players scored a goal for Notre Dame. Paino had four goals and a season-high two assists. Reddick also had four goals, a career-high three assists to go along with five draw controls. Carter tied a career-high with two assists.
Notre Dame's 10 team assists are tied for sixth most in a game in program history.
The Falcons return home on Sunday to play Frostburg State University. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
