FROSTBURG, MD — After finishing double overtime, the Notre Dame Falcons women's soccer team won in a 4-3 shootout, and is headed to the MEC Championship game.
NDC keeper Jordan Pasalaqua foreshadowed the game from the very start. In the fourth minute of the match, Frostburg State's Alexis Pate tried her luck in a one-on-one with the keeper directly in front of the goal. Pate snagged a pass from the corner and made a move in an attempt to sneak the ball in low and to the left, but Pasalaqua was able to slide out and save the shot. That was the story of the match against Frostburg, as both teams threatened throughout the contest. The teams combined for 31 shots in the match. Frostburg State shot the ball 19 times (ten on-goal), while the Falcons shot the ball 12 times (five on-goal). Pasalaqua finished with nine saves at the end of regulation, and saved her tenth in the first overtime period. Neither team shot the ball in the second overtime period, and the game went into a shootout. For the highlights of Pasalaqua's saves against Frostburg and the PKs, click here.
Penalty kicks were scored by Katja Josipovic, Blake Allen, April Gaukin, and Madison Luckett, who sealed the deal in favor of the Falcons. Alyssa Wright finished with five shots total, three of which were on-goal. Michelle Escobar, Katja Jasipovic, and Madison Marino all added one shot-on-goal each. The keeper, Jordan Pasalaqua, finished with 10 saves.
They head on the road for an MEC title match on Sunday at Concord University. The game is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
