Men’s soccer beats Concord, will play Davis & Elkins on Wednesday

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – In the final regular season contest, Notre Dame College scored six goals for the second consecutive game and defeated Concord University, 6-0. NDC's sophomore Malvin Gblah scored two goals and had an assist, freshman Filip Sparevec added two goals and freshman Marcus Vinicius Pereira had a goal and two assists.

The Falcons had taken six shots in the first 15:39 of the game. They converted in the 16th minute when Vinicius Pereira found Sparevec, who was running and battling a defender. On a very close play, Sparevec got a foot on the ball and shot over the head of Concord's goalkeeper, Sean Monro, for the first goal of the day.

In the 26th minute, sophomore Kai Wagner sent a pass across the box to Gblah, who shot and scored into the right side of the goal to put NDC on top, 2-0.

Notre Dame scored again, ten minutes later, when Gblah set up sophomore Ned Dry, who was centered in front of the goal. The Falcons took a 3-0 lead as Dry put the ball into the net.

The final goal of the half came on a penalty kick by Vinicius Pereira with about a minute to play before halftime.

Notre Dame took 16 shots in the first half and held CU to two.

Sparevec scored his second goal of the game about a minute-and-a-half into the second stanza. Vinicius Pereira sent a pass from nearly the sideline on the right side of the field and then Sparevec kept his shot low and under the goalkeeper.

Gblah scored for a second time, giving the Falcons a 6-0 advantage in the 64th minute.

Sparevec and Gblah led the team, taking five shots, each.

"The players had a good day today," said head coach Carl Nolan. "We created a lot of chances and converted enough to give us a chance to rotate and try a few different things in the second half. It was great to have Isaac [Soto], Ryan [Grisez] and Lars [Brudvik] on the field together in the second half. They have been a fantastic senior group and have served Notre Dame College men's soccer well. We now are looking forward to the tournament semifinal."

NDC has secured the three seed in the Mountain East Conference Tournament, finishing the regular season with 18 points.

The Falcons will play Davis & Elkins College in the MEC Semifinals on April 21. The start time will be announced later.
