FROSTBURG, Md. – On Friday afternoon, Notre Dame College traveled to play Frostburg State University. The Falcons fell to FSU, 9-1, in game one and Frostburg State also earned the win in game two, by a score of 9-7.
To start game one, senior
Katelyn Rheude singled, moved to second base on a groundout, moved to third on an error and scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of junior
Lexi Rehm.
Frostburg State tied the game in the bottom of the first inning when Sierra Sanderson led off the inning with a single and scored two batters later. They would tack on two runs later in the inning to take a 3-1 lead.
The Bobcats added a run in the second inning, two in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Rehm went 2-for-3 in the game and senior
Taylor Olson also had two hits, including a double. Batters three through six in the order combined for six hits.
Notre Dame jumped out to an early lead in game two, as well. Junior
Daniele Rivera singled, junior
Alexi Maciejowski was hit by a pitch and then an error allowed Rivera to score. Maciejowski scored on a fielder's choice and a third run crossed the plate after another error by FSU.
Frostburg State scored a run in the first inning and then tied the game at three in the second inning after Sanderson's single brought in two runs.
Rheude tripled with one out in fourth inning and she scored when Rivera singled. Two batters later, Rehm hit an RBI single to bring Rivera home and put NDC up, 5-3.
The Bobcats tied and took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. A two-run single and a two-run triple gave FSU a 7-5 advantage. They would add two runs in the sixth inning with a pair of singles.
Notre Dame fought back to make it a two-run game. In the seventh, freshman
Chloe Vance reached on an error and scored when sophomore
Mya Wright put a ball over the fence for her third home run of the season.
Rivera went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Rehm also went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Maciejowski tripled in the sixth inning.
Notre Dame will play West Virginia State University tomorrow. The first game of the double-header begins at 1 p.m.
