PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Notre Dame College's offense came to life in the second half against Alderson Broaddus University, as the Falcons scored four goals and took 18 shots in the final 45 minutes. NDC won the game by a score of 6-1.
For the first time this season, the Falcons were not the first team to score a goal as Alderson Broaddus' Tanner Kidwell scored in the 12th minute, with an assist by Melvrik Fernandes.
But the Falcons then scored six unanswered. The scoring started on the NDC side when sophomore
Pablo Ricalde Gonzalez netted a goal for the Falcons in the 28th minute.
A foul was called on AB in the 44th minute, and freshman
Lukas Hackaa lined up to take the penalty shot. He gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead before the teams went into the halftime break.
The Battlers took just four shots in the second half, but about four minutes into the second stanza, a header by Nathan Djona went high.
Notre Dame was threatening around the 52nd minute, taking two corner kicks. Senior
Evans Armah converted in the 55th minute to give NDC a 3-1 advantage.
Notre Dame went on the attack, and between the 56th minute and the 76th minute, the Falcons took eight shots and four of them were on goal.
Freshman
Leonardo Mansure scored a goal in the 78th minute and sophomore
Malvin Gblah gave NDC a 5-1 lead, two minutes later.
The Falcons' final goal came in the 85th minute, when a pass from Mansure to freshman
Jordan Akins led to the sixth goal.
"This was new opposition for us, and that is always exciting," said head coach
Carl Nolan. "After a setback of going a goal down, we responded really well in the first half. In the second half, we had a lot more focus and we got some great contributions from the whole squad."
Mansure, Gblah, Akins and Ricalde Gonzalez all scored their first goal of the season. Ricalde Gonzalez, Mansure and Armah were credited with the assists.
The Falcons' six goals, 30 shots and 16 shots on goal were all season-highs. Their three assists on the day is also tied for the highest mark this season.
Notre Dame will come home for their final regular season game on April 18, against Concord University. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
