NDC falls to No. 1 Charleston

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Both Notre Dame College and No. 1 University of Charleston had to deal with difficult weather conditions on Thursday. The Falcons struck first, but UC scored twice in the second half to win, 2-1.

After an hour delay due to snow on the field, Notre Dame was ready to attack the Charleston goal. Within the first 13 minutes, NDC had taken three shots and maintained possession throughout much of the early part of the game.

The Falcons took eight shots in the first half, while Charleston took three. Near the end of the half, a pass found freshman Filip Sparevec who had a defender next to him and the UC goalkeeper Marc Torrado in front. Sparevec's first shot ricocheted off of Torrado and rolled into the box, becoming an easy goal for the freshman. NDC went into the halftime break leading 1-0.

In the 56th minute, Sparevec had a shot go wide of the goal. Junior Nicholas Felician had an open look when he got the ball deep in the box, but his attempt was saved by Torrado.

As the snow started swirling again, Charleston tied the contest in the 76th minute when the ball bounced around in front of the goal, leading to an open shot by Alexis Ledoux.

The Golden Eagles grabbed the lead in the 82nd minute when Alejandro Larrayoz passed to Adam Burchell, who was running in the middle of the box. Burchell slid and put the ball into the back of the net.

In the second half, Charleston took eight shots while NDC took two.

Sparevec took four shots in the game for the Falcons and Felician recorded three shots.

The Falcons will travel to Wheeling University to take on the Cardinals on April 9. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
