CEDARVILLE, OH— The Notre Dame College women's softball team dropped a pair of games to Cedarville University this afternoon.
The team lost the first game with a final score of 8-5, scoring two of their runs in the third inning and the remaining three of their runs in the fifth inning. Alexis Maciejowski went 2-4, driving in one run and hitting one double. McKenzie Zigmont also went 2-4, and scored one run in the first loss.
Chloe Vance got the start in the circle in the first game, and allowed three runs on seven hits, two walks, and hit two batters before pitchers Taylor Olsen, Emmilee McCracken would get pitching time as well before Vance reentered to finish the game, but was not credited with a loss.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Olsen took the circle to replace Vance with two outs, and was able to get a strike out to end the inning with a score of 3-2 in favor of Cedarville. In the top of the fifth, the Falcons were able to go-ahead, 5-3. In the bottom half of the fifth inning, McCracken replaced Olsen after she gave up a run, cutting the Falcon lead to one, and Cedarville eventually tacked on four more runs, securing the win for the Yellow Jackets and giving McCracken her first loss of the season.
The second game was finished in five innings, and McKenzie Zigmont earned her second loss of the year allowing five runs, of which four were earned in her three innings of work. Chloe Vance, Mikayla Grajczyk, and Kristen Luksic each got pitching time as well.
McKenzie Anderson batted in the lone run of the second game, while Meadow Odum and Ellen Wheatland both went 1-2 with a double and triple respectively.
The Falcons will have their first home game of the season on Sun. Mar. 14 as they host the Storm of Lake Erie College in a doubleheader. First pitches are scheduled for 1 and 3 pm.
