BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – For the second consecutive game, Notre Dame College won with a shutout. On Sunday, the Falcons visited West Virginia Wesleyan College and took the win by a score of 1-0. The only goal was scored on a penalty kick by freshman Lucas Hackaa.
"Today was a really important three points for the team," said head coach
Carl Nolan. "To come here with such a young group, and win, is an achievement. We still have lots of work to do, but we had some really good moments today. We are learning lessons and maturing each week."
In the fifth minute of the contest, Hackaa took possession and passed it up the field to freshman
Marcus Vinicius Pereira. West Virginia Wesleyan's goalkeeper Logan Nelson came out to try to break up the play, but collided with Pereira in the box.
Hackaa took the penalty kick and kept the shot low and into the left corner as Nelson dove the opposite way. That would be all the Falcons needed, as the defense held steady.
W.Va. Wesleyan took nine shots in the first half and just one in the second half. Throughout the game, they only recorded three shots on goal.
NDC's freshman goalkeeper
Arvid Engstrom saved all three shots.
Notre Dame will play their home opener on March 28, against Frostburg State University. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
