SOUTH EUCLID, OH — The Notre Dame College Falcons improve to 8-2 in the 2021 season with a 55-53 victory over Concord University on Saturday evening.
The matchup was a close one, featuring 20 total tie scores, and 14 lead changes throughout the entire game. The Falcons started the fourth quarter with a three-pointer by Theresa Parr to give the Falcons a three-point advantage, and the two teams traded a five point lead each up until the three-minute mark in regulation.
Jen Oduho converted both free throws to bring the Falcons within three, however another layup by the Mountain Lions put them back up by five with 2:32 left in the fourth. Oduho made a layup with 1:23 left to play to put Notre Dame within two.
Theresa Parr also converted a pair of free-throws with 0:41 left to play to put the Falcons behind by one. Jada Marone passed the ball to Tamia Ridley at the top of the key with 0:26 left, and the Falcons secured a one-point lead in the final seconds of the game, aided by two made free-throws by Amil Ali-Shakir.
Head Coach Lauren Macer highlighted her team's defense in the win. "Our team defended well tonight", said Macer. "We focused on the game plan and the team did it together. They handled the game one possession at a time, and we got a favorable outcome tonight."
With the loss, the Concord University Mountain Lions fall to a .500 record of 5-5 on the season.
The Falcons return to the court on Wednesday evening in a road matchup against Alderson Broaddus University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
