OWENSBORO, Ky. – At the Blue Bridge Classic, Notre Dame College softball played twice on Saturday, falling to Lake Erie College, 4-1, and Cedarville University, 7-2. The two games scheduled for Sunday were canceled due to weather.
In the first game of the season against Lake Erie, NDC's
Taylor Olson and LEC's Grace Hammer started the season locked in a pitcher's duel through the first five innings. However, a four-run sixth inning for Lake Erie put the Storm in control. Senior
Mikaela Fording scored the only run of the game for NDC.
The Falcons played Cedarville in the second game. In the bottom of the first inning, Cedarville's Brooke Miller hit a two-run double to left-center field.
Notre Dame got the offense started in the top of the third. Senior
Katelyn Rheude hit an infield single and then junior
Alexi Maciejowski doubled to center field, cutting the gap to one run, 2-1.
Rheude came up in the fifth inning and singled, again. She moved to second and then third on two groundouts. Junior
Daniele Rivera doubled and brought in the Falcons' second run, which tied the game.
Cedarville scored a combined five runs over the fifth and sixth innings, which included a two-run homer by Arica Flaugher.
Maciejowski and Rheude both recorded two hits in game two.
Notre Dame will travel to Cedarville on March 6 for a double-header. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
