SOUTH EUCLID, OH -- The Notre Dame College women's soccer team (6-8-3, 6-7-3 MEC) traveled to Alderson Broaddus University (1-15-1, 0-15-1 MEC) on Sunday afternoon for the final regular season contest of 2021. Entering the day, NDC was tied with West Liberty for the third and final playoff seat in the MEC North Division. Prior to NDC vs. AB, Wheeling knocked off West Liberty 2-0, opening the door for a Notre Dame College win or draw, to advance into the postseason. The Falcons brought their offensive firepower by netting four first half goals en route to a 4-0 victory over the Battlers to secure a chance at back-to-back MEC tournament championships.
Â
In the first half,
Emily Gimmel started the scoring outburst for NDC by netting her first career goal in the 13th minute off of an assist from
Kalie Blaising, to put the Falcons up 1-0. In the 20th minute, Gimmel scored her second goal of the match when
Madison Marino assisted the forward to her career day. In the 28th minute, Marino joined the scoring column with her fourth goal of the season, continuing her tear over the last two weeks. In the 40th minute, Notre Dame was awarded a penalty kick that Blaising buried with confidence to ultimately shut the door on the battlers and leap Notre Dame College into the MEC Tournament. For the freshman, it is her first career goal scored.Â
Â
The Falcon's offense generated 14 shots and recorded five on goal.
Jordan Pasalaqua is credited with her seventh clean sheet of the season as she was not tested by the Battlers attack.
Kyra Grzely entered the match in relief of Pasalaqua and recorded the lone save for the NDC goalkeepers on the afternoon. The Falcons were able to create seven corner kicks compared to AB's three total shots, one on goal and one corner kicker. The Battlers Diana Forero received the only yellow card caution of the match in the 32nd minute.Â
