Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Falcons net a season-high four goals in clean victory over Glenville State

SOUTH EUCLID, OH – The Notre Dame College women's soccer team (5-7-3, 5-6-3 MEC) hosted Glenville State College (3-13, 2-12 MEC) on a pleasant Sunday afternoon on Mueller Field for 2021 Senior Day. Seniors, Sammy Salatino (#5), Alyssa Kuntz (#8), Emily Gimmel (#20), Lydia Healy (#22), Avery Griffith (#32) and Jordi Markovic (#35) were honored prematch at midfield. NDC dominated the day from start to finish with a season-high in goals scored in a 4-0 win. Four goals scored marks the most goals for Notre Dame since Oct. 24, 2018 in a 5-1 win over Wheeling.

In the first half, Salatino dribbled down the field and ripped a shot off the top woodwork, the ball bounced back in front of the goal and Madison Marino netted the loose ball for her second goal in as many games in just the 4th minute of action. Louisa Follert followed suit in the 18th minute with her team-leading eighth goal of the season as Notre Dame went on top, 2-0. Jordan Pasalaqua recorder her lone save of the match in the 33rd minute to preserve her clean sheet performance. Coming down towards the end of the half in the 45th minute, Follert received a world class pass from Marino to put the Falcons up 3-0 with only 11 seconds until the half. The freshman leads NDC in goals scored with nine.

The second half NDC generated several more chances in a contest that the Falcons outshot the Pioneers 20 (11) to 2 (1). To cap off a marvelous performance, Marino netted her second goal of the day at the back post via a Salatino cross. The Falcons would take a 4-0 lead in the 47th minute to ensure an important three points on the afternoon.

"On senior day it's nice to see the whole team contribute." said Head Coach Mike Shiels, pleased with the effort by the Falcons today. "We put a few goals away early and we scored early in both halves. It was nice, we created a lot of opportunities and didn't give up many."

Notre Dame College is now tied with West Liberty University with 18 points for the third and final MEC Tournament spot after the Hilltoppers fell to West Virginia Wesleyan 2-0 this afternoon. Both teams have two contests to play, as WLU plays Davis & Elkins on Wednesday and Wheeling on Sunday.

Notre Dame will be back in action on Wednesday Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. when Concord University comes to town for the final home game of the season. NDC will round out their season on Sunday Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. against Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, WV.
