SETON HILL, Pa. – For the third time this season, Notre Dame College scored seven goals, or more, in a game. The Falcons put up four goals in the first half and three more in the second half, while the defense earned the shutout, in a 7-0 victory over Seton Hill University, on Wednesday.
The offense got started early, as freshman
Taylor Dyson lofted a pass into the box just over the head of sophomore
Lukas Hackaa and past the defense. Once Hackaa beat everyone to the ball, he sent a shot past the Griffins' goalkeeper, Nicolas Lancaster.
The score would remain 1-0 until the 35th minute, but then the ball found the net three times in the final 10 minutes of the half. Sophomore
Marcus Vinicius Pereira was fouled just outside of the penalty box. He kept the free kick low and threaded it through the line of defenders in front of him to score.
In the 41st minute, junior
Malvin Gblah launched a pass as he was near the midfield line. Sophomore
Filip Sparavec took possession but a collision of Sparavec, Lancaster and a Seton Hill defender allowed the ball to roll away. Sparavec stayed on his feet and had an easy goal.
The final goal of the first stanza was an own goal by SHU. The ball was sent up in the air following a free kick and headed in as the clock struck zero to put NDC ahead 4-0.
Notre Dame's offense dominated Seton Hill in the first half, taking 13 shots. The Falcons' defense allowed just two shots, and none on goal. Prior to Wednesday, Seton Hill had not allowed more than two goals in any game this season.
The second half started similarly to the first. Less than six minutes into the final 45, sophomore
Felix Nassen worked the ball to the right side of the field and pushed the ball up to Sparavec. The Falcons' forward had a lot of space to rocket a shot past the goalkeeper.
In the 66th minute, after multiple crisp passes, the Falcons sent the ball around to the top of the box. Gblah received a pass from senior
Nicholas Felician and put a move on a defender to free up space for a shot and goal.
About nine minutes later, NDC worked the ball up the field with precision. Pereira found Felician, who took the pass at the top of the box, worked around a defender and fooled the goalkeeper. Seton Hill's goalkeeper at the time, Nathaniel Huff, dove in the opposite direction of Felician's shot.
In the second half, Notre Dame added 14 shots to their total and finished with 27. That is the second highest number of shots taken in a game by NDC this season.
The Griffins only had a couple clear opportunities. In the 50th minute, a shot by Jakob Sabatula nearly found the net under the crossbar, but went high. Their only shot on goal came in 67th minute.
Gblah and Felician each scored their first goal of the season and Nassen had his first assist of the campaign. Sparavec finished with his first multi-goal match of the year.
Notre Dame comes home to battle Frostburg State University, on Oct. 24, at 12 p.m.
