SOUTH EUCLID, OH – The Notre Dame College women's soccer team (3-3-3, 3-2-3 MEC) hosted West Virginia Wesleyan College (4-5-1, 4-4 MEC) for a beautiful Sunday afternoon match. The Lady Bobcats came out victorious in a low-scoring 1-0 final after 90 minutes.
In the first half, the deciding factor and game-winning goal came early on in the 3
rd minute when WVWC's Paloma Zamora scored on an assist by Morgan Mitchell. It was a slow first half for NDC as they would only be able to total one shot when
Sammy Salatino had her strike blocked in the 31
st minute.
In the second half Notre Dame was able to string together five shots, including three on target. The best opportunity for the Falcons came from
Madison Marino in the 53
rd minute when she ripped a shot at the top of the net that required saving from Paige Miller of WVWC. On a last-ditch effort, an 87
th minute shot by
Madison Luckett was saved by Miller to ensure the victory for the Lady Bobcats.
In total, NDC tallied six shots with three on target, from Marino,
Hannah Schmidt and Luckett. Notre Dame created four corner kicks and registered five saves in net via
Jordan Pasalaqua. In comparison, West Virginia Wesleyan had eight shots, with seven on target, while seeing zero corner kicks and swatting three saves. There were three yellow cards handed out in the match to
Alyssa Kuntz of NDC and Paloma Zamora and Morgan Mitchell of WVWC.
Notre Dame College will be back in action on Wednesday Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. when the Falcons travel to Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, W.Va.
