ELKINS, W.Va. – A record-breaking day by junior
Jada Marone and balanced scoring allows Notre Dame College to reach a season-high in points and defeat Davis & Elkins College by a score of 90-58, on Saturday.
Marone made her presence known in the first minute of the game. She grabbed a defensive rebound and then was credited with an assist on the first NDC basket by junior
Theresa Parr. Marone then stole the ball which led to a fastbreak layup by senior
Julie Kemp.
She had four assists and four steals in the first quarter. Both Marone and senior
Jen Oduho scored eight first quarter points.
In the first quarter, NDC shot 11-for-18 (61-percent) from the field and 4-for-6 (67-percent) from three-point range, scoring a season-high 29 first quarter points and led by 20 going into the second stanza.
"The team came out focused from the start," head coach
Lauren Macer said. "It was a good team win, we were glad to get everyone out there on the court today. The team has been working hard."
After the Senators cut the Falcons lead to 15 points, 32-17, with 5:32 remaining in the first half, NDC put together a 9-0 run. That run included a pair of threes by Parr, who finished with 10 points.
The Falcons closed the half on a 16-2 run in the final 5:30 of the half and led 48-19 at halftime.
Notre Dame continued to play well and D&E never cut the deficit below 30 points. NDC's largest lead was 41 points, 90-49, with 2:30 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Marone finished with 16 points, 10 assists, 10 steals and six rebounds. That's a career-high in assists and steals for her and she is now first in program history in steals for a single game, breaking Martha Nagbe's record of nine from the 2015-16 season.
She is the third player this season in Division II women's basketball to grab a triple-double. It is the first for NDC in their Division II era and the 15th triple-double in the history of the Mountain East Conference.
"It was great for Jada to earn her first collegiate triple double," Macer said. "It was exciting for everyone."
Oduho led the Falcons with 18 points and seven rebounds in just her second game of the season. Freshman
Lizzie Imrie scored in double-digits for the first time in her collegiate career with 10 points. NDC had four players who scored in double-digits and 14 players who scored at least one point. The Falcons totaled 48 bench points.
Notre Dame comes home to play West Virginia Wesleyan College on Feb. 1 for a 5 p.m. start.
