FROSTBURG, Md. - The Notre Dame College Falcons women's basketball team earned a win over the Frostburg University Bobcats this afternoon. With the win, the Falcons increase to 5-1 on the season, while the Bobcats fall to 2-4 with nine games remaining until the conference tournament.
The Falcons earned an early lead in the first quarter. Junior
Jada Marone was the first to strike, making a layup less than one minute into the contest. While the Falcons held an early lead, Frostburg chipped away and caused three ties until just under the three-minute mark when the Bobcats pulled ahead and finished the first quarter with a score of 17-12. This remained a theme well into the second quarter, pulling ahead as much as 13 over the Falcons, however an eight-point run all scored by Marone put the Falcons down by five with 2:21 left in the half. There was a lot of work to do, however, because the two teams went into the locker rooms at the half with a two-score advantage in favor of Frostburg.
In the third quarter, Notre Dame regained some momentum with the help of three-point shooter
Marina Adachi, who sank three from beyond the arc to help swing momentum back to the Falcons. With five second left in the quarter,
Jada Marone scored off a jump shot and was fouled, and converted the free-throw for a three-point play to cut the Bobcat lead to one point heading in to the last quarter of the contest.
Marone took the lead back in the fourth with back-to-back scores, and Notre Dame earned a win with a final score of 67-61. She finished with 27 points, eight steals, six rebounds, three assists, and one block.
Marina Adachi added 17 points, with a shooting percentage of fifty beyond the arc, as well as three steals, and two rebounds.
The Falcons return to South Euclid on Wednesday (Jan. 23) to host West Virginia Wesleyan in an evening showdown. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
