BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – On Wednesday night, Notre Dame College went on the road looking for their fourth win in five games. But West Virginia Wesleyan College connected on 20 baskets in the second half and won, 90-63.
Notre Dame had to put together a comeback early in the game and they stepped up to the challenge. Freshman
Jordan Burton hit NDC's first shot at the 15:40-mark and his three pointer was the spark that the team needed. By the 11:55-mark, a layup by senior
Daniel Lott put the Falcons ahead 16-15, capping a 16-3 run. During that run, the Falcons moved the ball well and had an assist on four of their baskets.
Senior
Drew Scarberry knocked down a three for NDC and put his team up by four points, 21-17, with 8:27 remaining in the first half. Scarberry made three 3-pointers in the game and now sits at 299 in his career.
With just over two minutes to play in the first half, Notre Dame sophomore
Levi Frankland connected on a shot to make the score 31-28 in favor of Wesleyan. But neither team scored in the final 2:16 of the half.
Notre Dame shot 43-percent in the first half and limited West Virginia Wesleyan to 42-percent shooting. The Bobcats also went 0-for-4 from the free throw line.
A jumper by Frankland to open the second half pulled NDC within one point, 31-30. West Virginia Wesleyan responded by rattling off the next eight points to lead 39-30 with 17:11 remaining in the game. From that point, WVWC's lead did not reduce any further than seven points.
Three players scored in double-digits for Notre Dame. Scarberry finished with 19 points on 50-percent shooting. Frankland added 14 points while Burton gave NDC 11 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Luka Petrovic led the Bobcats with 23 points, on 9-of-14 shooting, nine rebounds and six assists. Wesleyan shot the ball at 56-percent and went 52-percent from three-point range.
Notre Dame will play Davis & Elkins College in Murphy Gymnasium on February 8. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 4 p.m.
