GLENVILLE, W.Va. - In a battle for first in the Mountain East Conference Glenville State defeated the Notre Dame College women's basketball team 95-72 with two big quarters at the end of each half. NDC, having one of its best starts in program history is now 17-3 (11-3 MEC) on the year while the Pioneers are now 16-4 (12-2 MEC).
The Falcons started the game off strong, earning a 22-19 lead in the first quarter. Notre Dame traded leads with GSC early in the second quarter before the home team went on an 18-4 run to end the first half.
Down 46-34, NDC again started the half by showing they were capable of playing with the three-time MEC champions. The Falcons went on a 10-3 run to close their deficit to just five points, but Glenville State pushed back. Notre Dame won the third quarter 24-23, but were unable to close the gap.
Seina Adachi filled the stat sheet with 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals, and was joined in double-digit scoring by
Jessie Stout and
Jada Marone. Stout and Marone each made over half their attempts from the field to score 15 and 13, respectively.
Stout led the Falcons with five rebounds while
Marisa Finazzo and
Theresa Parr tied Adachi's three assists.
Notre Dame will face another road challenge on Wednesday, February 5, as the Falcons travel to West Virginia Wesleyan for a 5:30 p.m. game.
