Flurry of second half goals push Notre Dame past Concord

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Concord University scored first and held a 1-0 lead through nearly 22 minutes in the first half, on Sunday afternoon. That was before Notre Dame College tied things up and then pulled away between the 78-minute mark and the 84-minute mark, scoring three times, and winning 4-1.

The first point was put on the board by CU in the 11th minute as they converted on their only shot of the first half. It started behind the midfield line where the visitors worked the ball from right to left before a pass was lifted toward NDC's goal. Daniel Culverwell then passed to Maxime Ramioulle who was able to sneak the ball past Notre Dame's goalkeeper Daniele De Angelis.

NDC was very aggressive right out of the locker room and obviously played well defensively, allowing just one shot on goal in the game. The hard work paid off in the 33rd minute when junior Evans Armah was in the right spot at the right time. The ball was passed back to Concord's goalkeeper Kyle Brown, who tried to elevate the ball and get it down field. But the pass was instead a line drive that hit Armah standing in front of the goalkeeper. Once Armah gathered himself, he scored the easy goal.

By the end of the first half, the Falcons had taken nine shots. Within the first ten minutes of the second stanza, NDC had taken four shots and three of them were on goal, saved by Brown.

Then, within a seven minute span, the Falcons earned their third victory of the year. Sophomore Nicholas Felician converted on a goal in the 78th minute, as he struck the ball from the left side of the box. Brown was in position in goal, but the ball slipped through his arms.

Not long after the Felician game-winner, senior Giulio Bellei scored in the 82nd minute of action. Once again, it looked like the Mountain Lions had possession comfortably, but a mistake was caused by Bellei's defensive pressure. Felician stole the ball and then passed back to Bellei for the goal.

The fourth goal came in the 84th minute as freshman Giovanni Mazzaretto found junior Varis Singh Khera at about the 40 yard line. Khera was able to outrun defenders and scored from the right side of the box.

Notre Dame recorded 21 shots in the second half, while allowing Concord to take just one. The goals from Felician and Bellei represented their first of the season.

Concord's Kyle Brown saved eight shots, allowing just two goals. Barett Schultz entered the game in goal and allowed the final two goals.

The Falcons will travel to Wheeling University on September 25 for a road matchup with the Cardinals. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
